This post may seem to move straight away from Link Baiting Strategy from the beginning but stick with me because there is a point to be made.

Being “the coolest guy on the planet earth” (according to Yahoo!) means being generous. As a side pet project I simply want to support a few causes I feel strongly about. To be specific environment sustainability, clean renewable energy and peace on earth, and you may notice banners of these around this site.

Although this might be a bit idealistic I think it’s something we can all aim for.

So where am I going with all this?

Well for starters many businesses now support charities and many claim to be “green”. Often you’ll find statements on a companies products saying how they are using recycled paper or buying carbon credits to “help support the environment”.

In the big scheme of business I see this as a huge step forward and something that will raise awareness in the mass population, countrywide and worldwide.

But many companies also use this as a PR (public relations) tactic to gain publicity and strengthen the bond to their customers.

Online Companies have transformed this PR tactic into Link Bait Idea #1 (see below)

Strategy #1

Supporting the Greater Good – This is one of the strategies that websites (companies) online use to gain link juice, or links back to their website. By supporting something bigger than just what they sell, but truly promoting a difference to be made in the world many companies are able to win the support of their customers and other site owners with similar interests.

Strategy #2

Giving Real Hard-Core Value – Although some “gurus” advise you to save all your good content for your products. Real Quality information is still and always will be in high demand. Some examples of real value would be a product comparison that visually helps a web surfer compare the unique differences in similar products. The end result is a consumer that wants to pass along the help to others. Example: Top 10 Lists

Next you could ask yourself what are my customers/visitors really after? Make separate pages that outline some of the topics in great detail. As your visitors discover these they’ll want to share these useful pages with others.

Strategy #3

Make It Easy – Believe it or not most people are not total computer nerds. If you want large amounts of people/bloggers/websites to link to you make it super-easy. For starters you could create a simple text link containing your main keywords for your page and provide them the HTML code in a small box at the bottom of the page.

…and to cap these simple link baiting strategies off, the more real value you provide the more links others will give you in return and the more link you get in return the more valuable your site will appear to the search engines.

As the internet evolves things change. One thing that has stayed “relatively” the same is the way SEO works.

The component I want to talk about today is linking a.k.a. backlinking…

See, as the internet changes there are always new ways to to market and distribute content and products that are often more effective than the old ones. One of these “new ways” to market more effectively is to leverage the massive number of social networks that have been created over the last 2 years.

Social= People Interacting

Network= Interconnected Group

So you see much of the work has been done for you already. By tapping into social networks you gain access to a large interconnected group of people that communicate with each other.

WARNING: Along with this new wave of marketing and SEO come a few precautions

You are dealing with people, you are more likely to get people talking about you and LINKING to you if you make sense. BUT so many of the Blackhat SEO optimizers (and business owners) that simply scrape and compile nonsensical content for better rankings could watch there business crumble using the social medium if they don’t evolve with the web.

Nobody likes a spammer. I’ve had members come into my marketing social network and start blasting ads to my members for “male enhancement” and other unrelated topics. You better believe he ended up getting his ip blacklisted. I’ve even had some one by the name of “Abdul Bin Laden” who inherited millions get inside and offer “to send a large percent of the inheritance for help getting the funds”. You’ve seen the scam right? Now this may be an extreme case but the point is if you are building a business to work less you want to publish high-quality content that is useful.

So let’s move on to how we can leverage these networks for more links.

Here’s a powerful strategy that I’m beginning to use that is giving amazing results.

Every time you publish a blog post or a new webpage bookmark it with the following semi-automatic social bookmarking services. It will save you a TON of time!

Socializer

OnlyWire

SocialMarker

Socialize It

Post Toaster

Social Poster

This gives your message a broader reach of the internet by getting both links and exposure to real eyeballs. But don’t stop there…

Once a week login manually to each of your accounts and interact with others. You might:

Invite friends

Leave a comment on someone elses profile

Answer messages

Overall the point is to just interact. As long as you be yourself and show yourself (including your likes, and dislikes) you will begin to attract people to you who share similar interests and will help to share your message with others.

Over time your backlink network will build up not just from the social networks but from the individuals who make up those networks.

And the profiles, content and pages you publish on those various networks become your own virtual real estate that you will own theoretically forever.

Make sense?

-Jae

P.S. If I missed any great tools below make sure to leave a comment and I’ll update the list

Strategy is defined as a long term plan of action to achieve a desired goal or outcome.

With search marketing your desired outcome is to be ranked in the popular search engines at a position where searchers will find you. In reality this usually means the front page, and the bulk of searches are usually given to just the top 3 results.

So regardless of what you do in your Search Marketing efforts you always need to make sure you have a strategy or game plan that will finish with you on top.

This may seem like common sense, yet a beginner online will read all kinds of outdated SEO mumbo jumbo and think that because some expert said it, it must be right…

This is a fools errand. SEO, Search Marketing and any type of Marketing- for that matter, is based on the hard science of numbers. The numbers related to your results.

To develop your own search marketing strategy I recommend running tests or experiments of your SEO efforts for no more than 30 days at a time.

Anything that takes longer than 30 days to measure is hardly worth the effort. To ensure that your SEO has maximum effectiveness I recommend always running a control campaign.

Your goal will be to make sure your new experiment, including any new variables you introduced, outperforms the existing search marketing strategy you are using.

So what does a typical Search Marketing Strategy look like?

Here are a few points to keep in mind:

Research keywords that interested individuals will use to find you. There are several great keyword research tools including Googles keyword tool, Wordtracker, and Keyword Discovery. You can use these keyword databases to compile a spreadsheet of popular terms with other variables such as monthly search volume.

Always track where your visitors are coming to you from using an analytics software or script. I personally like Piwik analytics yet I see most people using Google analytics. The main argument I see against Google analytics is that your information becomes part of their information which raises privacy concerns for some webmasters. Most analytics packages will tell you which search engines, and for which keywords, your visitors are using to arrive at your site. Knowing where your traffic is coming from is absolutely essential to making progress with your SEO efforts.

Although onpage optimization is important, a long-term, successful, search marketing strategy is focused on building links to your site. Each of these links will count as a vote for you as a “cool site” that deserves a good ranking. Now, there are many approaches to getting links. Above all these approaches the #1 factor to keep in mind is this- “The easiest way for you to get others to link to you and (in essence) contribute to your search marketing strategy, is to publish truly unique, killer content! Long term this is the best way to run your business Bar None!

All search engine marketing strategies should be centered around some type of link building. Your daily plan should include ways you will attract attention to your site. This could be done in a variety of ways such as press releases, creating a network with other sites related to yours, submitting your link to directories, developing relationships with others who share similar interests on social networks, and giving away valuable tools, reports or videos.

Now that you’ve seen some ways you can immediately improve your results, what challenges have you faced in getting the results you want by using search marketing?

Just leave a comment below, I promise to answer…

Press Releases give you the opportunity to deliver news to media professionals potentially getting you interviews which you can use to establish yourself as an expert.

Press Releases can be written and optimized for the search engines by you giving you more links pointing to your site.

Many Press Release Services (including Free ones) allow you to place a link back to your site. This helps as building links is an essential part of ranking better.

Google will actually consider your site more relevant if you have a similar (as far as keywords are concerned) page linking to it or referencing it. So don’t forget to include your keywords in your press release.

Here are some of the popular Press Releases sites that I use to distribute press releases for SEO purposes.

PAID

This trick is almost too easy.

You see, doing your own SEO requires a lot of time and effort.

The good news is a lot of that time and effort can be reduced by using certain search engine marketing software applications that are specifically designed for doing time-consuming SEO research and tasks.

You see doing your SEO work manually is worse than “doing time” at your favorite Maximum Security Prison. In fact manual SEO work just plain SUCKS!

One of these killer software programs that I’ve used to keep from gluing my eyes to my computer screen is SEO Elite by Brad Callen.

I’ve gotta say “It’s pretty cool”

There are several projects you can use to

analyze your competition

submit articles automatically

check your rankings

find authority sites

and a lot more.

To be honest the main thing I use it for is the rank checking to track my progress, but I’m sure if I used some of the other features I’d see results even faster!

If you still do SEO the old fashioned way you are seriously wasting your life

(unless of course you actually enjoy it)

And if you aren’t hip to this cool search engine marketing software you can learn more about it at the:

So you want to learn how to optimize your site?

First thing you need to do is start thinking like a search engine. A search engine finds and indexes information in a variety of ways but they all center around keywords.

In order for a search engine to rank you well you should make your website keyword rich. There are many examples where you may refer to your keyword as “it” when writing for your website.

This should be avoided. Because your competition may be littering his page with keywords but have a product only half as good as yours.

AUYK= Always Use Your Keywords

This helps establish you as an authority on the topic for the search engines.

As an SEO expert there are a few things you can do for practical jokes or to impress friends.

As you know the name of this site is The Coolest Guy on the Planet SEO

The reason I did this was because “the coolest guy on the planet” is a popular search phrase that SEO optimizers compete for.

I’ve been featured on the front page with a top position of about #5 but can’t seem to stick there consistently.

As far as difficulty – I doubt it’s any where near the level of a keyword like “marketing” but then again it’s all in good fun.

FYI: There wouldn’t be much sense behind trying to optimize your site for the keyword “marketing” first off it’s highly competitive and secondly it’s not targeted.

Someone searching for the term marketing could be looking for any number of things which is another reason why when you optimize your site you should get as focused terms as you can. Focused terms allow you to rank better faster and in some cases show up on the front page in a matter of weeks as opposed to months.

For example regarding the word “marketing” if you did marketing on the internet or provided an email marketing service you’d find it much easier to rank well for a term like “email marketing service” or “internet marketing” then trying to rank for a broad term that would probably bring you unresponsive traffic.

Today is especially exciting because I’ve ranked #1 for the keyword term “The Coolest Guy in the Universe” and as a previous top ranker of this keyword phrase pointed out.

“if you are the coolest guy in the universe doesn’t that also make you the coolest guy on the planet?”

Anyway it’s all in good fun, just thought I’d share it.

-Jae
